Internet Filtering Woes

Folks may want to check out the Center for the Safe and Responsible Internet Use.

The organization posts many online publications, including one that examines 6 major filtering software packages, and how those filters can exclude important health information.

I found it surprising how the filters blocked 1 in 10 for intentional access to pornography and only 1 in 3 times for unintentional access to pornography. Most elementary students are going to fall into the unintentional category so this is quite alarming.

I also agree with the article that filters give parents, teachers, and administrators a false sense of security.

I have mixed feelings about Filters. I think they have a place however I think as Cathi alluded to they always don't serve their purpose. If they was a way to perfect it, it would be a benefit to all.
